Overview
Water-swelling sealant is a one-component paste based on polyurethane prepolymer and water-absorbing resin. Extruded and cured into an elastic body, it swells on contact with water to seal gaps. Compared with strips, it is applied as a continuous bead and conforms more tightly, making it ideal for shield segments, bolt holes and pipe penetrations.

Installation
- Clean the construction joint or segment face — no standing water, laitance or loose concrete.
- Cut the nozzle to the design section width and load the cartridge.
- Press the nozzle against the substrate and extrude a continuous bead at a steady rate, leaving no voids at the interface.
- Skin forms in about 24 hours and full cure takes about 7 days. No water contact before cure.
- For high-pressure locations specify PJ-400.
FAQ
To JG/T 312-2011, PJ-220 swells 200–400% and PJ-400 more than 400%. Ordinary underground work is served by PJ-220; where leakage risk and pressure are high, choose PJ-400. On acceptance, ask for the test report and check volumetric swelling ratio, bond strength and skin formation time.
Typical underground work uses multiple lines of defence: a waterstop embedded in the movement joint as the primary barrier; a strip or this sealant on the construction joint face as the second; surface-mounted waterstop or coating as the third. The sealant suits construction joints, embedded items and bolt holes; strips suit regular horizontal and vertical joints; movement joints with large displacement and high pressure need a waterstop. They complement rather than replace each other.
A common 600 ml cartridge covers about 7–9 m at a 10 mm × 10 mm section. The substrate may be damp as long as there is no standing water, which is more forgiving than ordinary sealant — but standing water must be dealt with first.
