Overview
Buried rubber waterstop is moulded from natural or synthetic rubber and embedded in concrete during casting to block seepage at joints. It serves tunnel secondary lining joints, metro station and running tunnel joints, utility tunnel joints, hydraulic powerhouse and box culvert settlement joints, and high-water-pressure basement joints.

Installation
- Install on centre: the centre bulb must align with the joint centreline, with no offset.
- Fix with rebar clamps or dedicated clamps on the edge flanges only. Never pierce the body with wire or nails.
- Splice by hot vulcanisation (dedicated mould plus uncured sheet). Simple adhesive butt joints are not acceptable.
- Cast symmetrically from both sides and vibrate in layers to prevent the waterstop rolling or collapsing. Never let the poker touch the waterstop.
- Keep splices away from corners and stress concentrations, and stagger them.

Type 651 has a single centre bulb, type 652 has two. 300×8 means 300 mm wide and 8 mm thick — the most common size in practice. Wider options include 350×8, 350×10 and 400×10. Always start from the type and size on the design drawing.
Four points: (1) the centre bulb must align with the joint centre and be fixed with added rebar or dedicated clamps — never nail through it; (2) the waterstop must lie flat, not rolled or twisted; (3) cast half embedded and half exposed, and vibrate thoroughly so concrete beds onto the rubber; (4) keep aggregate and rebar ends from puncturing it, and repair any damage immediately.
No. There are two methods: (1) cold splice — grind the ends back 5–10 cm, apply dedicated cold-splice adhesive and press; fast and adequate for ordinary work; (2) hot vulcanised splice — use a heated mould with uncured sheet at 140–150 °C on site to reach near-parent strength, which is mandatory on important works.
Buried sits in the middle of the concrete and is the default choice. Surface-mounted is bonded to the outside face and works with the membrane for repair and secondary sealing. Steel-edge adds galvanised steel strips for mechanical interlock and higher pressure resistance, used in critical high-pressure movement joints. Important works often use buried plus surface-mounted.
