Overview
Steel-edge rubber waterstop bonds galvanised steel strips to both edges of the rubber body; the steel anchors mechanically into concrete, markedly improving resistance to water pressure and movement. It is specified for critical joints in metros, utility tunnels and high-head hydraulic works.
Technical data
| Property | Measured | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | GB 18173.2-2014 | — |
| Rubber hardness (Shore A) | 60 ±5 Shore A | — |
| Rubber tensile strength | ≥15 MPa | — |
| Elongation at break | ≥380 % | — |
| Steel edge material | Galvanised steel strip | — |
| Steel edge type | Perforated or plain flat strip | — |
Advantages
- The steel edge interlocks mechanically with the concrete, giving better pressure and displacement resistance than an all-rubber waterstop.
- Suited to critical movement joints with high water pressure and large displacement.
- Perforated and plain flat edge options, both made to the design drawing.
- Can be combined with a buried waterstop for composite sealing in high-groundwater projects.
- Pre-purchase sampling, third-party re-testing, full refund if a test fails.
Applications
- Critical joints in metro stations and running tunnels
- High-pressure sections of utility tunnels
- Hydraulic tunnels and retaining walls
- Underground basins and pump rooms
- Basement slabs with high groundwater
Installation
- Set out to the drawing so the waterstop centre aligns with the joint centreline.
- The steel edge may be tack-welded or tied to the reinforcement. Never weld or pierce the rubber.
- Splice by hot vulcanisation and keep splices away from corners.
- Cast symmetrically from both sides and vibrate thoroughly so concrete grips the steel edge.
- Avoid knocks that deform the steel edge or damage the galvanised coating.
FAQ
The rubber body is the same; the steel-edge type adds galvanised steel strips on both flanks. The steel interlocks mechanically with the concrete, raising pressure and displacement resistance and holding position more reliably during casting. It costs more than a standard buried waterstop.
The steel edge may be tack-welded, but the rubber must never be welded. Welding heat burns through the rubber and creates a leakage path, so heat protection is essential.
